Getting started

Look around without a key

Open plebchat.me and choose Look around. Demo mode includes example conversations and reading material. It costs nothing and does not create an identity.

When you are ready to keep your own work, return to the front page and choose Get started.

1. Install it, or keep using the browser

The setup guide offers installation on supported phones and desktops. Installation is optional; the browser app has the same core features.

2. Create or bring a Nostr key

Your keypair is your account:

  • Create a new key on this device.
  • Paste an existing nsec.
  • Use a supported browser signer.

If you create a key, back up the nsec when prompted. Anyone with it can act as you, and PlebChat cannot recover it.

Your public npub is safe to share. Your secret nsec is not. Understand the difference.

3. Choose how to use AI

You can:

  • add PlebChat credits with Lightning or Cashu and pay per use;
  • configure your own supported AI provider and API key;
  • skip AI setup and use features that do not require a model.

You can change providers and models later under Settings → LLM Providers — see the Settings reference.

4. Start with a real question

Ask the Agent something you genuinely need to understand. From there:

  • switch on search tools from the composer's + button when you need sources;
  • save useful material in your library — books, articles, files;
  • grant the Agent a folder and let it write the answer into real files;
  • open Debate when a claim needs pressure rather than polish.

Installation instructions remain available in Settings. PlebChat can be installed as a web app; desktop releases may also be available for supported systems.
