Settings reference

Open Settings from the gear in the sidebar. Each section below matches a section in the app. The box at the top of the list finds a setting by name, including fields inside a section (type "api key" or "blossom").

Profile & Keys

Your Nostr identity: the active npub, how you signed in, and Key backup for keys created in PlebChat — back up the nsec somewhere safe; PlebChat cannot recover it. Sign out removes the key from this device. For a key created here and never backed up, signing out is irreversible.

PlebChat Credits

The built-in pay-per-use provider, on its own page. Deposit sats, chat with any model on the catalog, search the web, and withdraw the rest to ecash any time (Credits and Cashu). One balance pays for models, web search, and page fetches.

  • Credits — balance, deposit (Lightning or a pasted Cashu token), withdraw.
  • Models — the priced catalog from the PlebChat service. Pick a default; limit which models the picker offers (empty = all); star favorites.
  • Advanced — the server URL (point it at a self-hosted paygate) and your credit key.

Custom Providers

Everything you bring yourself. Requests go directly from your browser to the provider, so it must allow browser (CORS) access. The PayGate card at the top is a shortcut to the page above.

  • LLM endpoints — choose Add an endpoint and pick OpenRouter, xAI (Grok), or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (a local LM Studio/Ollama-style server, or a hosted API). Enter the base URL and API key. Each endpoint page has a Models table: limit which models the picker offers (empty = all), star favorites, rename a model for the picker, and see price, input types, and context length where the provider reports them. Replies always stream.
  • Web search & fetch — the provider behind the Web tool (web_search, fetch_page), article reading, and Add web page in Files. One provider is active at a time; the radio picks it. The PayGate row appears once you have credits and needs no key. Add Firecrawl, Tavily, or Exa with an API key. Test key checks the key without spending credits (Exa has no usage route, so its test runs one single-result search). Firecrawl shows its remaining credits. Nostr search needs no provider.
  • RSS proxy (web only) — an optional CORS pass-through for RSS feeds; the desktop app fetches RSS directly and needs none. Empty = off; without it, a feed that blocks the browser falls back to the search provider.

The model used for a reply is always the one the thread selected — see Models and tools.

Agent

  • Defaults for new chats — the model a new chat starts on, the tool packs it starts with, and the search mode. These are the composer's last picks, shown here so you can see and change them. A thread can still override each one.
  • Personality prompts — saved prompt bodies that shape who the agent is. Deep Research, Analyst, and Socratic Tutor are built in and read-only; duplicate one to customize it. Pick a personality per thread from the composer's + button.
  • Skills — reusable working methods the agent loads on demand: a name, a one-line "when to use it", and the full instructions.

Your own prompts and skills sync encrypted to your relays.

Relays

A hub with one screen per subsection. Read Relays and the outbox model for the model behind it.

  • What goes where — for each thing you do (look up your identity, publish, read someone, browse Discover, sync, back up a file), the relays PlebChat reads from and writes to. Computed from your current setup. Tap a relay to read its information document.
  • Your relay list — your NIP-65 list: each relay marked read, write, or both. Edit it and press Publish. Every other Nostr app honors it. Keep at least one write relay.
  • Indexers — the three fixed relays PlebChat asks for anyone's relay list, profile, and follows, with a reachability dot.
  • Discovery hosts — the relays Discover queries for long-form articles. Default set: damus, nos.lol, primal, nostr.wine, offchain.pub, Highlighter, Gigi's WoT. Your articles and highlights are also sent here.
  • Search relays — the NIP-50 relays that answer text searches: the agent's Nostr search tool asks the first, the Search tab asks all. Default relay.nostr.band. Search-only hosts never receive your writes.
  • App relay — where PlebChat's own encrypted records go. Ours by default; point it at any relay you trust.
  • Blossom servers — file storage for backups. The default is PlebChat's own, blossom.plebchat.me.
  • Offline storage — what this device keeps, Prepare for travel, and cleanup.

The App relay and Blossom lists stay on each device. Save is muted until you change something.

Sync

The live status of automatic account sync: each record, its state, pending pushes, and conflicts, with retry controls. See Privacy, storage, and sync for what syncs and when.
